Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife mandates that anyone fishing has a valid fishing license.

If you do not have a fishing license or are coming from out of state, that is not a problem.  At Charter Fishing Seattle we can provide you with a one-day fishing license for a $10 fee.  We will handle that on the boat prior to your departure so you can get out and enjoy catching fish.

We will be out on the water for a few hours, we encourage all of our guests to bring something to eat and drink. Since we do not know what the weather will be like we suggest you plan ahead and check the weather forecast to determine if you should bring sunscreen, sunglasses, baseball hat or other clothing to protect you from the elements.  Please remember that mornings can be a little cold, especially on the water so we encourage everyone to dress in layers so that you can be comfortable regardless of what mother nature throws us.   Although today’s phone cameras are pretty good, many guests also bring cameras and binoculars as we never know what we will encounter – from beautiful mountains to wildlife. If you get motion sickness you may want to consider bringing some Dramamine, although we will be fishing in pretty protected waters.  Finally, to transport your catch home we suggest a medium-sized cooler.

One of the features of being in the Port of Edmonds is that it is a quick boat trip to some really good fishing grounds. Therefore, we get more fishing in that most other charters. We typically leave the dock at 7 am in the morning and will be back to shore by 1 pm in the afternoon. Please plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to departure to ensure all paperwork is completed. And yes, for those that are worried about it, there is a fully functional and operational bathroom on the boat.

There is no guarantee, but we run into lots of different great and amazing sites. From fish and wildlife, we have encountered whales, Orcas (Killer Whales) pods, lots of sea lions, porpoises and birds of prey such as eagles and hawks. In addition, for those that have not visited the Puget Sound area, you will get scenic views of Mount Rainier, Olympic Mountains, Mount Baker, and the Cascade Mountain range. It really is an incredibly beautiful place to come and explore.

One of the first questions we usually get asked is “will I get sea sick?”.  And while no one can guarantee that you will not, here is what I can tell you.  We are fishing in the protected waters of Puget Sound.  The wind usually comes in from the Northwest and generally speaking we are pretty protected from large waves.

Because of wind and tides, we do get some chop on the water, but it usually not to bad.  Come prepared.  If you know you get sea sick easily (for example, you have a tough time sitting in the back seat of a car), then bring something to coat your stomach.   It is very rare that anyone ever gets sea sick as the waters are pretty protected and most passengers are looking at the horizon, either watching poles or looking at the beautiful scenery.

There is GREAT fishing year-round in the Puget Sound area. October through May we are fishing for resident Chinook salmon locally referred to as Blackmouth Salmon. These are juvenile Chinooks or King Salmon that stayed in the Puget Sound. From May Though June 15th Ling Cod are usually legal and lots of fun to catch. From July Though September that is the assault on the salmon run. Species we catch include Coho, Kings, and Pinks. Our public disclaimer…Washington State Regulations do change periodically so if you have questions please contact us and we will let you know what is happening.

Not unless you want too. We are a full-service charter and will quickly clean your catch to your specification. After which, we will then put it in plastic bags for you to transport home to enjoy.

No previous experience or knowledge of fishing is necessary. You need only be in average physical condition and have a hearty appetite for adventure. Fishing in Puget Sound is fun regardless of your experience level and we will teach you our successful techniques.
