Coho Salmon, also known as Silvers Salmon, is a very popular catch during the summer and fall seasons. The month of September usually provides a bountiful experience for fishing enthusiasts. Here’s a guide that can help you maximize your Coho Salmon Fishing experience.
Resident Coho Salmon VS. Ocean Coho Salmon
First, understand that there are very distinct yet similar types of coho salmon populations in the Puget Sound Region. Unlike the migratory Ocean Coho Salmon, Resident Coho Salmon usually stay and feeds within the Puget Sound region. They are usually smaller than the Ocean Coho Salmon and have a darker shade of reddish color. Due to the differences in their diets, they also have subtle differences in their flavor.
Where To Fish For Coho Salmon
Coho Salmon are very popular around the pier and dock areas of Edmonds, Seattle, and surrounding areas. These are great feeding areas, especially for Resident Coho Salmon. Ocean Coho Salmon are more likely to be around deeper waters of Puget Sound and towards the coast feeding on squid and other small animals.
